Manage Your S t r e s s
What is it, how does it affect me, and how do I control it?

Me, stressed out? Okay, maybe a little... 😬

I think it's fair to say we are living in a pretty stressful times. Coronavirus has changed the way we do just about everything.  Our country is having an identity crisis with many Americans not sure who or what to believe. The environment is under threat from rising air temperatures all around the globe.  It's easy to get overwhelmed by stress on a good day let alone these days in which we are living!

Stress is part of life, and it isn't always a bad thing.  Stress can be our friend, though we must learn how to control it so it doesn't control us.  But, how?

In the three-part inquiry we will be learning the answers to the following questions:
  1. What is stress and where does it come from?
  2. How does stress affect us, for better or worse?
  3. How can we control our own stress levels to improve our lives?

ELA Skills
📓

During this unit we will learn about...

  • The difference between close reading and skimming for information
  • Using text features to locate information
  • Paraphrasing information we learn about from our reading
  • Domain specific vocabulary associated with the study of the stress response in humans
  • Analyzing our own lives and stress levels in the context of our reading

📌 Inquiry Learning - Part 1

In this first part of our inquiry we will be learning what stress is and how it affects our minds and bodies as we work our way through a slideshow created for this learning.  Though you can access the slideshow below, use the one I post in your Google Classroom so you can record your answers there.

📌Inquiry Learning - Part 2

In this second part of our inquiry we will be looking at ways we can control, or manage, our stress so it doesn't control us.

Let's try out some stress reducing strategies that are
scientifically proven to work!

Strategy 1 -- 3 Good Things
Read the document embedded below to learn about this practice.

Strategy 2 -- Letter of Appreciation
Watch the video embedded below to learn about this practice. You may also choose to read my letter of appreciation to my parents, which I was able to deliver to them in person a few months before they died.

Strategy 3 -- STOP for Mindfulness

Watch the video below to find out about this practice.  After watching, give the strategy a try on your own.  Use the mini poster embedded to help you remember the steps.
